Manufacturing time:

Mûmack is now built one unit at a time, to order. It’s a very “vintage” module in both its design and spirit: all components are through-hole, and everything is hand-soldered in our workshop in France.
Please allow around two weeks to one month between placing your order and delivery.

Mûmack is a 100% analog VCO with a very rich and powerful sound. It allows waveform alteration or enrichment in multiple ways, all of which can be combined and paired with a VCA per mode. Its range covers 10 octaves at 1 V/oct. Mûmack can also be used as an LFO thanks to its ability to produce extremely low frequencies (several tens of seconds).

Waveform (WAVE output)

Three waveforms (triangle, sawtooth, square) can be freely mixed using a dedicated potentiometer for each shape’s amplitude. A CV input and a potentiometer can change the shape of the square wave (PWM). A linear potentiometer adjusts the signal’s amplitude, which can also be modulated via the VCA’s “WAVE” CV input. This “WAVE” signal is inverted by 180° and mixed with the other signals on the MIX output.

MORPH

Using the “Morph & Fold” potentiometer, you can vary the waveform on the “MORPH” output: from a softened triangle to a more pronounced triangle, then to a sine wave, and finally to a square wave. An LFO can modulate this shape in both speed and amplitude. The asymmetric clipper also modifies the final shape and has its own LFO (and CV input) for modulation. The linear potentiometer both mixes this signal with the other waveforms and modulations and adjusts the “MORPH” output’s amplitude. It is also possible to modulate this output via the VCA.

FOLD

The signal from the morphing stage is fed into a wavefolder, which folds the waveform more or less depending on the position of the “Morph & Fold” potentiometer. That same control affects both the folding effect and the original waveform shape. This wavefolder has its own LFO adjustable in speed and amplitude. Depending on the settings of the asymmetric clipper and the three LFOs, you can obtain complex, evolving, organic waveforms. The linear potentiometer adjusts its amplitude, mixes the 180° inverted signal with the others, and the VCA provides an additional modulation source.

Asym Clipper

In the central position, the signal is unchanged. Turning the potentiometer to the right or left shifts the MORPH and FOLD signals positively or negatively, clipping them according to their amplitude. A dedicated LFO modulates this effect in speed and amplitude. A CV input with an attenuator can also modulate it.

MIX

The three sources (WAVE, MORPH, FOLD) are inverted by 180° and mixed according to their respective linear potentiometers, then combined into a single output. The output volume is controlled by its own linear potentiometer and can be modulated via the dedicated VCA input.

MIXER AND VCA

Each of the three channels—and the product of all three—can be controlled by the VCA, with an attenuator. The mixer and VCA are designed to introduce distortion at around 90% of the linear potentiometer travel. You can induce this distortion on just one of the outputs, which is then mixed with the others.

INPUTS

  • Sync: Soft synchronization

  • 1 V/oct: 10-octave–calibrated, temperature-controlled input

  • Pitch + attenuator: Uncalibrated input allowing frequency variation from below 1 Hz to over 20 kHz

  • Clipper + attenuator: Allows modulation of the asymmetric clipper in addition to (or instead of) its LFO

  • FM: FM input with attenuator

  • PWM: Square-wave pulse-width control

  • VCA: WAVE, MORPH, FOLD, and MIX are all modulatable, with an attenuator in addition to the mixer

OUTPUTS

  • TRI: Direct triangle output, unmodulated

  • SAW: Direct sawtooth output, unmodulated

  • SQUARE: Direct square output, unmodulated

  • WAVE: Mixed output of the three waveforms, modulatable

  • MORPH: Morphing output, modulatable

  • FOLD: Wavefolder output, modulatable
